The EU must tackle malaria, urges EAAM
 Three days before the European Council meeting from June 19-20, the European Alliance Against Malaria (EAAM) called on the EU member states to fulfill their financial commitments to achieve the health related MDGs.

The World Economic Forum Zeros in on Malaria in Africa, Cape Town, 4-6 June
 Malaria, a disease that has been repeatedly shown to stall Africa's economic development, was the focus of three sessions at the annual gathering of the World Economic Forum on Africa. Global and regional leaders discussed how to better strengthen Africa's health systems, encourage further innovation in current malaria interventions and secure financial investment for sustained malaria control. The Zambezi expedition, a recent advocacy initiative of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership was showcased as a successful model for strengthening regional cooperation on malaria control.

The Global Fund Launches Additional Funding Round in 2008, Geneva, 4 June 2008
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria announced its intention to launch a second call for proposals in 2008, inviting countries burdened by the three diseases to submit additional requests for funding. This will be the ninth round of funding since the Global Fund's creation in 2002, and the second time the Global Fund launches two calls for proposals in the course of a single year.
