Business Meeting on Development, Production and Distribution of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets

A Business Meeting of stakeholders on the development, production, and distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, 23 to 24 September 2004. The meeting was organized under the auspices of the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership Working Group on Insecticide Treated Nets (WIN) in recognition of the bottleneck presented by the need to re-treat conventional insecticide treated nets (ITNs) to maximize their effectiveness for malaria control. A satellite group of WIN was established in 2003 to develop a strategic framework for the development, production, and distribution of LLINs. The meeting reviewed critical issues affecting technology development, access, local production, demand creation and marketing. Obstacles to as well as incentives for the development, production and distribution of LLINs were identified and strategic priority actions needed to make LLINs available to target populations outlined.
