The first meeting of MCMWG took place in Geneva on March 21-22, 2003, prior to the meeting of the RBM Partnership Board. Dr Peter Bloland (CDC) was elected as the initial Chairperson.

The Working Group formed one Task Force with the responsibility of developing and finalizing the draft Strategic Framework document and four sub-groups were formed to address the following issues:

1. Quality control/regulatory issues/drug management
2. Financing of antimalarial treatment (jointly with RBM Financing and Resource Mobilization WG)
3. Case Management (clinical)
4. Communications & Training
