The Working Group on ITNs has been established to consider evidence-based policy decisions and to make recommendations on steps for rapid scaling up of ITNs in Africa. The recently published Strategic Framework for Co-ordinated National Action related to Scaling-up of ITNs in Africa provides a comprehensive overview of current thinking.

In 2007 The RBM Working Group for Scalable Vector Control (WIN) and WHO Global Malaria Programme have developed a consensus statement regarding the use of wash resistant insecticide treatment kits. It discusses an interim strategy for retreatment of conventional nets during the transition period to full replacement with long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs).

The Workshop on Mapping Models for Delivering ITNs through Targeted Subsidies, a satellite group meeting of the ITN Working Group, was held in Lusaka, Zambia on May 13-15, 2003. The two main objectives behind the workshop were: to review and assess past experiences with different models for delivering ITNs through targeted subsidies; and to provide some guidance to countries and their partners who are planning to implement ITN interventions.

In July 2003 the ITN Working Group organized a teleconference (11.07.2003) to finalize the nomination of the Chair and Co-chair and fix the date for their inaugural meeting in September.
