HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium, Special Representative to RBM, encourages UAE to Maintain Commitment to Global Fight Against Malaria

HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium began her second trip to the Gulf as Special Representative to the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership on Sunday, with a visit to Abu Dhabi. Joined by RBM Executive Director, Professor Awa Coll-Seck, and Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Professor Michel Kazathckine, the Princess is in the region to advocate officials and heads of state to increase investments in global malaria control efforts.
While in Abu Dhabi, the Princess and the delegation from RBM and the Global Fund met with several officials and heads of state to discuss the importance of continued investment in malaria control efforts. Throughout the visit, the group met with Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, HE Abdul Rahman Mohammed bin Nasser Al Owais, Minster of Culture and interim Minister of Health, HH Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarek Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and representatives from the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charitable Foundation. Throughout her meetings, the Princess spoke of the impact of simple, cost-effective malaria control interventions and noted the importance of malaria to the Millennium Development Goals, particularly MDG 6, which calls for a decrease in deaths to preventable diseases like malaria by 2015.
Before leaving Abu Dhabi, the Princess and Professor Coll-Seck attended a ladies-only dinner hosted by HH Sheikha Al Yazia, wife of the UAE's Minister of Foreign Affairs, HH Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zayad Al Nahyan.

Le 18 mars 2010 à Paris, Prof Kazatachkine (GFATM), Dr Newman (OMS-GMP) et Prof Debré (Ministre des Affaires Étrangères français et membre du Conseil du RBM), se sont joints au Prof Coll-Seck pour lancer la premier Rapport de la Collection Progrès et Impact du Partenariat RBM.

Le 18 mars 2010, à Paris, Prof Coll-Seck s'exprimait sur Radio France Internationale (RFI) à propos des financements actuellement disponibles pour lutter au niveau mondial contre le paludisme.
