Central Africa Roll Back Malaria Network (CARN)

The Central Africa Roll Back Malaria Network (CARN) coordinates partner support on technical and operational issues for going to scale with effective malaria control interventions to 9 Central African countries:

  1. Angola,
  2. Cameroon,
  3. Chad,
  4. Congo,
  5. Gabon,
  6. Equatorial Guinea,
  7. Central African Republic,
  8. DR Congo,
  9. Sao Tomé-et-Principe.

The CARN was officially established at an inaugural meeting in Libreville, Gabon, 5-6 April 2005.

15-17 September 2014: CARN Advocacy for Resource Mobilization Workshop [Libreville, GABON]

15-17 September 2014, Libreville, GABON : - The Ministry of Health of Gabon, with the support of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership Malaria Advocacy Working Group (MAWG) and the Sub Regional Network for Central Africa (CARN), organized a three-day workshop on advocacy for resource mobilization for the national fight against malaria in Libreville from September 15 to 17, 2014. Speak Up Africa facilitated the workshop, which brought together over 30 people from the National Malaria Control Program, the TB control program, the HIV control program, the Parliament, the Ministries of Economy and Agriculture, WHO, UNDP, NGOs and from civil society organizations. Several private sector companies such as Shell, Total, Water and Electricity National Company and OLAM also joined the discussions and activities.

10 - 12 July 2014: CARN meeting on bridging the gap between NMCPs and research institutions for evidence based data for malaria decisions making [Douala, CAMEROON]

Anthropologists, socio-economists, parasitologists, entomologists, clinicians from Universities and Research institutions of DRC, Congo, Chad, Gabon, Cameroon, country NMCPs and WHO national programme officers and inter-country teams, met with National Malaria Control Programme managers in Doula, Cameroon for the first time, to look at how better to inform malaria programme design with vital evidence collected by research institutions. Together they drew up a declaration of collaboration to strengthen links between researchers and programme planners.

29 July - 1 August 2013: CARN NMCPs annual review and planning meeting 2013 [Douala, CAMEROON]

As the 2015 deadline approaches, national malaria control programme managers and partners from malaria-endemic countries in central Africa gather to review progress to date and develop strategies and plan for achieving the ambitious 2015 targets in a situation of reduced access to international donor funding.

The meeting was attended by CARN coordinator, advocates from the public sector, multi and bilateral partners, the private sector and from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

10-12 July 2012: 2012 CARN Annual Meeting [Yaounde, CAMEROON]

Representatives of more than 60 RBM partner organisations gathered for the two-day long annual meeting of RBM’s Central African Regional Network (CARN). Participants reviewed progress in malaria control in the region, identified bottlenecks and discussed strategies for their rapid resolution. CARN’s performance as a platform for synchronised action in the region was reviewed, as well as progress against the objectives and milestones of the 2012 work plan.
