INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
Brussels
On 25 April the Belgian Senate organized a malaria briefing on the occasion of Africa Malaria Day, at the initiative of Senators Sabine de Béthune, Vice Chairwoman, and Pierre Galand, Chairman of the Globalization Committee, which hosted the briefing. The Chairwoman of the Senate, Senator Anne-Marie Lizin, officially opened the Roll Back Malaria exhibit in the Peristylium of the Belgian Parliament. The following Roll Back Malaria Partners stressed how important it is for all actors to join efforts through Partnership for malaria research as well as for the field implementation of malaria programs, if the Millennium Development Goals are to be reached by 2015:

Senator Margriet Hermans kindly accepted the proposition of being the Rapporteur. The briefing was attended by representatives of all parties, NGOs and the UN. A rich discussion followed and led to a resolution signed by Senators of all parties. The event was extensively covered by TV, radio and written press.

On 27 April the Roll Back Malaria Partnership held a Malaria Briefing in the European Parliament to commemorate the Africa Malaria Day, at the initiative of Mrs Luisa Morgantini, Chair of the Development Committee.

Prof. Dr Giovanni Berlinguer, a Member of the European Parliament and Professor of Medicine, held a noted address on the need for more resources for malaria and other neglected diseases striking the developing countries.
The following discussion was very instructive with the noted interventions of Mrs Glenys Kinnock and Mr Thierry Cornillet, both Members of the European Parmiament.
