AFRICA MALARIA DAY 2002
OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PRIVATE SECTOR

Corporate Headquarters:

  • Africa Malaria Day Logo
    Get the code
    Place Africa Malaria Day hyperlink on the corporate website
  • Hold employee awareness activities: banners; displays; video presentations; etc.
  • Issue press release on Africa Malaria Day and how your corporation is fighting malaria (include quote from CEO on commitment to malaria)
  • Use Africa Malaria Day to announce new corporate malaria programs; donations; matching funds programs, etc.
  • Place ads and editorials on malaria in major newspapers and magazines
  • Create malaria merchandise that can be distributed with corporate products internally and at the country level
  • Frank internal mail and packages with malaria awareness stamp

Internal Employee Activities:

  • Display employee awareness raising posters, banners, booths, etc.
  • Sponsor competition among employees for innovative ideas for distribution, essays, etc.

Local Media

  • Place ad or editorial in local newspapers and other publications
  • Announce launch of local malaria control programs in community (bednet use, etc.)
  • Issue radio spots for Africa Malaria Day in local languages

Community Events

  • Hold community-wide fairs, festivals, parades; parties
  • Sponsor competitions in local communities, or hold a regional competition
  • Hold awareness-raising activities in nearby hospitals and clinics - distribute bednets to patients, entertain children with local talent, etc.
  • Hold an awards ceremony honoring all community health workers; sponsor training programs for them; donate supplies or equipment
  • Contact Minister of Health and other RBM partners to plan and implement joint activities.

Business-to-Business Marketing/PR

  • Create malaria-awareness displays in every local affiliate, such as petrol stations, retail outlets, etc.
  • Contact other local companies and ad agencies to coordinate activities to reach a wider audience and gain media attention.
